Add or subtract fractions
Use a common denominator. For 1/2 + 1/3, rewrite the fractions as 3/6 and 2/6, then add to get 5/6. For subtraction, subtract the adjusted numerators instead. The calculator reduces the final answer.

Use a common denominator. For 1/2 + 1/3, rewrite the fractions as 3/6 and 2/6, then add to get 5/6. For subtraction, subtract the adjusted numerators instead. The calculator reduces the final answer.
Multiply numerators together and denominators together. For 2/3 × 3/4, the product is 6/12, which reduces to 1/2. The fraction result is exact even when its decimal representation is not.
Multiply by the reciprocal of the second fraction. For 1/2 ÷ 3/4, calculate 1/2 × 4/3 = 4/6 = 2/3. A zero second numerator would mean division by zero and is not allowed.
Convert 1 1/2 into 3/2 before entering it. You can put a negative sign on a numerator or denominator; the result is normalized to a positive denominator. Decimal answers such as 0.33333333 are rounded approximations of exact fractions such as 1/3.
A LITTLE MORE CLARITY
Yes. Multiply it by 1/1 to get its reduced form. For example, 12/18 × 1/1 gives 2/3.
The fraction fields represent integer numerators and denominators. Convert a decimal into a fraction first, such as 0.25 = 25/100.
